Community rumours of order price, 2.5-litre single power unit, etc.; domestic launch of the revised Subaru Outback expected in Q2 2021

Since its debut at the New York Auto Show in April 2019 and its official launch in North America in July of the same year, the 6th generation Subaru Outback has been eagerly awaiting the introduction of the new model with its 11.6-inch touchscreen and SGP chassis.

Nearly a year and a half later, information has recently emerged from the Subaru owners’ community in Taiwan about a major facelift of the Outback, which states that it will be powered by a single 2.5-litre horizontally opposed natural gas engine and will be available as a single 2.5i-T EyeSight model for $1.598 million, with an early bird discount of $1.498 million. However, Taiwan’s distributor, IMSA, said that the above information is not entirely correct, but confirmed that the new Outback will be available to consumers in China in the second quarter of 2021 at the earliest.

The 6th generation Subaru Outback was first introduced at the New York Auto Show in April 2019, and almost a year and a half later, information about the Outback has recently been leaked to the Subaru owners’ community in Taiwan, stating that it will be powered by a single 2.5-litre horizontally opposed natural gas engine, and will be offered at a price of $1.598 million, with an early bird discount of $1.498 million. However, Taiwan’s distributor, Imax Auto, says the information is not entirely correct, but confirms that the new Outback will be available to consumers in China in the second quarter of 2021 at the earliest.
Subaru has chosen the 2019 New York Auto Show to unveil the 6th generation Outback, which, like the 7th generation Legacy to be unveiled at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, will also feature the SGP module chassis, but the 7th generation Legacy will not be introduced due to the shrinking mid-size sedan market in Taiwan. The North American market was launched in April 2019 and the car went on sale there in July of the same year, with the local specification being produced at the Lafayette, Indiana, USA plant.

However, the Japanese and European markets, as well as the Taiwanese market, will continue to be dominated by the current 5th generation Outback for the next year and a half, which will be produced in Japanese factories, so the pace of introduction is clearly out of line with North America.

The Japanese and European markets, as well as the Taiwanese market, will continue to be dominated by the current 5th generation Outback for the next 1.5 years after the release of the revised US model, and will be produced in Japanese factories.
A new generation of family vocabulary is introduced into the exterior of the revised US model
The Outback is 4,860 x 1,855 x 1,680mm, 40mm longer, 15mm wider and 75mm taller than the previous generation’s 4,820 x 1,840 x 1,605mm, while the wheelbase remains the same at 2,745mm. The new generation Outback, like the Legacy, also incorporates a number of new generation family design statements, including the eagle-eyed multi-sided LED headlamps and the Noah-shaped black LED tail lamps at the rear.

The US-spec Onyx Edition XT model also offers an exclusive all-black anti-scratch package, 18-inch aluminium rims and two-tone grey interior, as well as an induction power tailgate, 180-degree camera in front, exclusive dual-mode X-MODE off-road mode, a full-size spare wheel and StarTex water-resistant seats inside.

Like the Legacy, the Outback also incorporates a number of new-generation family design cues, including eagle-eyed, multi-sided LED headlamps and Noah-shaped, smoked black LED taillamps at the rear on both sides, together with the Outback’s signature scratch-resistant material package. Interior with upright 11.6″ touchscreen
The interior of the Outback is also the focus of the US-spec model change, with the focus inside the cabin being on the large 11.6″ touchscreen with a full HD image quality for better visual and audio enjoyment. The system also features Wi-Fi connectivity and smartphone interfaces (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Starlink SmartDeviceLink). The top-of-the-range model also features TomTom satellite navigation and voice-activated navigation, as well as a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

For the first time in a Subaru model, the power tailgate can be opened with a wave of the hand at the factory tailgate badge on Outback models. The luggage compartment can be extended to a maximum of 2,143 litres when tilted.
